A Good Little Girls Zine

The Books You Read

Yesterday, you picked up The Girlfriend of a Sex God

I saw it unfold, smirked to myself, it hadn’t unfolded yet this year and took us a few days for it happen, but when it does, I watch knowing, fully, so, so predictable are you:

For every seventh grade boy at some point has had his hands and eyes on that title.

Sex!

Could it be true? A book about sex! On the classroom bookshelf!

I giggle inside, holding in the the knowledge that this book is so little about sex and so much about what it means to be a teenage girl. I sneak a glance as you open it in hopes of finding a secret word or phrase or sentence—only you close it shut when you realize…yes, to find any sex, you might have to read the book.

The books you read they remind me why I come back.
