there is no beauty in this by Parivash Fahim Goff
I made of us boulders
forged in relentless gusts
that threatened silence,
destruction.
And maybe, for a time,
we were.
Solid against those
daily
known
forces.
But then –
the unexpected.
Like sandstone
we crumbled,
our tears only adding
to the deluge.
what barren land
i’m left with now;
my anger poison fodder
for parched soil.
i want to scream
blood into my throat:
how dare you
play so frivolously
with what we’ve created.
how is our fortress
so inconsequential
to you?
its ability to buoy us
on cold dark mornings
when vacant eyes can only
blink back at us.
the pull toward each other
to commiserate,
to celebrate –
stolen snatches
of five minute joy.
how dare you
how dare you
how dare you
conjure
this
flood.
