A Good Little Girls Zine

Upright Student

Deadlines are closer than they appear, I was always told in high school; I used to hate the phrase, the sentiment.

Deadlines are closer than they appear, but no one ever acts like they are, thriving in that mad rush—hating it, loving it, resenting those who understand that in fact yes deadlines are closer than they appear so start now.

Starting is the hardest part, my teacher used to say, but once you do, you are a better woman for it. Trite clichés rolled off her tongue, pricked my skin which absorbed them, holding them forever in me.

So now, I spit the same: deadlines are closer than they appear, starting is the hardest part, once you start you are a better woman for it.
