A Good Little Girls Zine

She swipes at her tears and slides out of bed,
even through the sleepless nights, this body remembers.

She walks in front of the floor length mirror
and sees behind the loose t-shirt, the curves, the muscles
she worked so hard to build: they are still alive, still here.

She hits play on her favorite song and begins to sway,
still under that large t-shirt.
Then, she ties the shirt right under her chest,
exposing that eighteen year old’s tattoo,
slides on her dance shorts

sixty minutes later,

She’s sweating from dancing so hard.

It occurs to her…the mind forgets easily placing deadly thoughts in its place,
but the body.

The body always remembers its purpose, its love, its beauty.
