A Good Little Girls Zine

Strings of Detachment

IMG_6432

Today I stood at the edge of the atlantic with my feet under salty water

where sky blends into ocean

and clouds sail overhead in familiar shapes from childhood,

sun beaming against my bare neck

skin dancing under the light

Strangers passing by may have glanced my way,

assuming I was here alone

Some may have even pitied me for it.

And in reality I guess I was there by myself—

my friends on their way back to the airport;

But—

I was also wrapped in the affection of my friends near and far,

resting my body, mind, spirit

on this brilliantly blue beach

A sky of memories to choose from and giggle about

As minutes ticked by,

parts of me settled to the bottom like the sand under the ocean

and I was on my own again
